Published: September 19, 2026

Fares checked on September 19, 2026.

Senso-ji temple in Asakusa says that fishermen found a statue of Kannon in their net there on March 18, 628. Its Kaminarimon Gate was first built in 942, and its Nakamise shopping street is one of the oldest in Japan (source: Senso-ji official English page).

From Narita Airport, the Keisei Access Express reaches Asakusa with no change for 1,290 yen per adult. The same train stops at Oshiage, the station for Tokyo Skytree, for 1,170 yen. Skytree is 634 m tall and its official English page lists opening hours of 9:00 to 22:30, with last entry at 21:30 (checked September 19, 2026). Which train is right for you depends on where your hotel is, how many of you there are and what time you leave the airport. This page puts the fares side by side in yen. It also has the same comparison for Kansai Airport if you are heading to Kyoto or Osaka.

The short answer

  • In the fares we checked, the price per adult depends on the hotel area. Ordinary trains are 1,030 to 1,600 yen. The Narita Express (N'EX) is 3,140 to 3,330 yen for Tokyo-area stations, and 4,480 yen to Yokohama. The Skyliner to Keisei Ueno is 2,580 yen. Table A below shows which options exist for each area.
  • A taxi is priced per vehicle. Nihon Kotsu's fixed fare is 26,000 to 30,000 yen to central Tokyo wards, and 28,000 to 33,000 yen to Shinjuku and Shibuya (the higher figure applies from 22:00 to 05:00). Trains and buses are priced per person. For 3 adults to Tokyo Station after 22:00, the trains still listed in the examples (the JR Sobu Line Rapid and the Skyliner plus JR) cost 4,230 to 8,340 yen in total, and the taxi costs 30,000 yen. We could not read a passenger or luggage limit for the taxi.
  • The time you leave the airport changes the list. In the timetables we read on September 19, 2026, the last N'EX departs Narita Airport at 21:44, the last JR Sobu Line Rapid to Tokyo departs at 22:57 (weekday) and the last Skyliner departs at 23:00. The N'EX times are from JR East's timetable version 2610 (an October edition), and the 21:44 train is marked "check the operating days", so it may not run every day. Timetables change, so check the operator's page for your date.

Adult, one way, as of September 19, 2026. Ride times and last departures come from the timetables we read, with the source noted for each.

Before you compare: prices that differ between pages

Skyliner: 2,580 yen, not 2,470 yen

As of September 19, 2026, Keisei's English "Skyliner: Fares from Major Stations" page still lists 2,470 yen from Narita Airport to Keisei Ueno. Keisei's Japanese ticket page and its English Skyliner Discount Ticket page list 2,580 yen (fare 1,280 yen plus a liner fee of 1,300 yen). JR East's fare search also gives 2,580 yen for the Skyliner. We use 2,580 yen. We do not know why the English page differs.

One more thing matters. Keisei's Japanese ticket page says that an adult who rides the Skyliner without a Skyliner ticket pays a 300 yen surcharge on the liner fee. That would make 2,880 yen. We could not find a start date for this surcharge on Keisei's pages.

N'EX: 3,140 yen to Tokyo Station

JR East's fare search returns 3,140 yen for a reserved seat on the N'EX from Narita Airport to Tokyo Station on or after March 14, 2026 (the date of the JR East fare revision). That is a 1,410 yen ticket plus a 1,730 yen limited express fee. As of the day we checked, a third-party page listed 3,070 yen. We do not know why the two differ, so we use the JR East figure.

Every N'EX seat is reserved. The fare to Shinagawa, Shinjuku, Shibuya and Ikebukuro is 3,330 yen. To Yokohama it is 4,480 yen.

The numbers: by hotel area

All fares are for one adult, one way, from Narita Airport (from the bus stop for buses). They include the ticket plus any limited express fee. They do not include the trip from the arrival station to your hotel, child fares or luggage fees. Taxis are priced per vehicle.

Table A: Fares by hotel area (adult, one way, as of September 19, 2026)

A dash means we have no fare for that option and area. Either there is no direct service, or we did not price it. "Not checked" means we did not get the fare.

Yokohama 4,480 (direct) - - - - - Not in Nihon Kotsu's fixed-fare table
  • In the Keisei column, the first figure is the Access Express ticket fare and the second is the Rapid Limited Express or Limited Express (Keisei Main Line) ticket fare. Keisei's own note says only that the amount differs depending on whether you go via the Narita Sky Access Line or the Keisei Main Line.
  • The "+" in the Skyliner column is a JR ticket from JR East's fare search. For Tokyo Station, Shinagawa, Shinjuku, Shibuya and Ikebukuro it is from Nippori on the Yamanote Line. For Akihabara, the 160 yen is for the route from Keisei Ueno on foot to JR Ueno, then JR to Akihabara; it is not the Nippori fare.
  • The Shibuya, Ikebukuro, Shinagawa, Akihabara and Yokohama rows are in this table only. They have no calculator because the rows are too few to need one.
  • JR East fares are the fares on or after March 14, 2026.

Table B: Trip times from a fare search

JR East's fare search returned these ride times. It did not use a set departure time. Each entry is "ride minutes + other minutes" as the search returned them. We do not know what "other" includes (it looks like changes, waiting and walking). Do not add the two numbers to rank the options.

Area N'EX Skyliner + JR JR ordinary trains
Tokyo Station 55 + 23 min 50 + 32 (2 changes) 80 + 10
Shinagawa 65 + 23 62 + 33 88 + 10
Shinjuku 78 + 23 58 + 32 (2 changes) 95 + 13 (1 change)
Shibuya 73 + 23 65 + 32 -
Ikebukuro 79 + 26 (1 change) 50 + 32 -
Ueno 63 + 26 (1 change) 43 + 29 (direct) -
Akihabara 59 + 26 46 + 32 77 + 13
Yokohama 90 + 23 - -
  • The Skyliner searches start with a short JR Narita Line Rapid section, so read the Skyliner times as rough. The Akihabara Skyliner time is on the same Keisei Ueno route as the 160 yen fare above (our reading: it is 3 minutes more than the Ueno figure of 43).
  • Keisei's own site says the Skyliner takes 36 minutes at the shortest from Narita Airport (Terminals 2 and 3) to Nippori and 41 minutes at the shortest to Keisei Ueno.
  • TYO-NRT's site lists about 68 minutes to Tokyo Station and about 81 minutes to Ginza from Terminal 1.
  • We did not get ride times for the Keisei Access Express or Rapid Limited Express.

Table C: Last departures from Narita

Times below are from the timetables we read on September 19, 2026 (the source is in the last column). Timetables change. Check the operator's page for your date.

Option Last departure listed Source and condition
N'EX 21:44 to Tokyo. A separate set goes to Ofuna and Shinjuku at the same time. Listed on both the weekday and the Saturday/holiday tables, but marked "check the operating days" (◆), so it may not run every day. The last N'EX without the ◆ mark: 18:15 on the weekday table. On the Saturday/holiday table every N'EX is marked ◆ JR East station timetable, Narita Airport, version 2610
JR Sobu Line Rapid (through service from the Narita Line) 22:57 to Tokyo (weekday). The 23:42 goes to Chiba, not Tokyo Same timetable. We did not confirm the weekend/holiday table by eye
Skyliner 23:00 from Narita Airport (Terminal 2 station 23:03, Nippori 23:43, Keisei Ueno 23:48). Weekdays and weekends/holidays Keisei timetable
Airport Limousine, Shinjuku line Terminal 3 22:55, Terminal 2 23:00, Terminal 1 23:05. Arrives at Shinjuku Station around midnight Tokyo Airport Transportation, table for Saturday, September 19, 2026
Airport Limousine, Tokyo Station line Terminal 3 20:35, Terminal 2 20:40, Terminal 1 20:45. Arrives at Tokyo Station at 22:00 Same table
Airport Limousine, Ikebukuro line Terminal 3 19:55, Terminal 2 20:00, Terminal 1 20:05 Same table
TYO-NRT bus Late-night services exist (3,000 yen). We did not find the last time TYO-NRT. Open seating, no reservation. No refund if you miss the last bus
  • Narita has two rail stations: Narita Airport Station (Terminal 1) and Airport Terminal 2-3 Station. Terminal 1 is a 5-minute walk from Narita Airport Station. From Terminal 2-3 Station, Terminal 2 is a 5-minute walk and Terminal 3 is a 10-minute walk (source: Narita Airport). If you land at Terminal 3, that walk comes before any train. The limousine bus also stops at Terminals 3, 2 and 1. The bus and the train have different prices and times, so we do not say either is better.
  • The JR Sobu Line Rapid took about 80 minutes to Tokyo in the fare search. A train departing at 22:57 would therefore reach Tokyo at about 00:15. That is our own arithmetic, not a timetable time.

Table D: Taxi fixed fares for one vehicle

Nihon Kotsu's fixed fares from Narita Airport (one vehicle, one way, tolls extra).

Area Day (05:00-22:00) 22:00-05:00
Katsushika, Edogawa, Sumida, Koto wards; Minato-ku Daiba; Shinagawa-ku Higashiyashio 21,000 25,000
Adachi, Arakawa, Taito, Bunkyo, Chiyoda, Chuo wards 26,000 30,000
Kita, Toshima, Shinjuku, Shibuya wards; Minato (except Daiba); Meguro; Shinagawa (except Higashiyashio); Ota 28,000 33,000
Itabashi, Nerima, Nakano, Suginami, Setagaya wards; Musashino; Mitaka 30,000 36,000
  • For a trip from Narita into Tokyo, book by 3 hours before the pick-up time (bookings open one month ahead). Cancelling within 3 hours means you are charged the fixed fare.
  • Nihon Kotsu says the fixed fare is based on using the Metropolitan Expressway, and the tolls are extra. We did not get the toll amount.
  • The page notes that for part of Setagaya the meter can be cheaper.
  • We could not read a passenger limit, vehicle type or luggage limit on the page.
  • We did not check Uber or other taxi companies.

Table E: Round-trip and combined tickets

Ticket Price (adult) Conditions and notes
N'EX TOKYO Round Trip Ticket 5,200 Valid for 14 days, round trip. JR East's own comparison lists normal round-trip fares of 6,280 (Tokyo), 6,660 (Shinagawa, Shibuya, Shinjuku) and 8,960 (Yokohama). We could not confirm who may buy it (see below)
Skyliner discount ticket 2,310 one way (regular 2,580); 4,500 round trip (regular 5,160) Bought online and similar. A round-trip ticket is exchanged at Narita Airport only, not at Ueno or Nippori. Keisei notes that some travel agencies charge a fee
Skyliner bought on board 2,880 2,580 plus a 300 yen surcharge, per Keisei's Japanese ticket page, if you ride without a Skyliner ticket (start date not found)
Keisei Skyliner & Tokyo Subway Ticket, one way 24 h 3,100 / 48 h 3,600 / 72 h 4,100 Includes Tokyo Metro and Toei subway rides. Prices are from Keisei's notice dated January 30, 2026, about the March 14, 2026 change to the subway ticket. Where to buy and when the time starts: not checked
Tokyo Subway Ticket alone 24 h 1,000 / 48 h 1,500 / 72 h 2,000 From Tokyo Metro's site (we read a summary, not the full page)
  • A sum from two official prices: the regular Skyliner (2,580 yen) plus a 24-hour Tokyo Subway Ticket (1,000 yen) is 3,580 yen. The Skyliner & Tokyo Subway Ticket (24 h) is 3,100 yen, which is 480 yen less. It only makes sense if you ride the subway that same day.
  • N'EX Round Trip Ticket: 5,200 yen is 1,080 yen below the 6,280 yen normal round trip to Tokyo, and 1,460 yen below the 6,660 yen normal round trip to Shinjuku. We could not confirm who is allowed to buy it. On September 19, 2026, we tried to read the English "How to Purchase" and FAQ sections of JR East's ticket page, but the page returned an "Access Denied" error. Read the conditions on the JR East page before you plan around this ticket. The N'EX row in the calculator below is marked as a reference for the same reason.
  • JR East's page for a one-way discount N'EX ticket returned "Page not found" on September 19, 2026, so we do not cover one.

What these prices leave out

  • The trip from the arrival station to your hotel.
  • Children. All prices are for adults.
  • Luggage. We found no luggage fee on these routes. TYO-NRT allows, in general, one suitcase per person (three sides adding up to 158 cm or less). We did not get luggage rules for the limousine bus.
  • Taxi tolls, and any taxi other than Nihon Kotsu, including Uber.
  • Ride times for the Keisei Access Express and Rapid Limited Express.
  • The Japan Tourism Agency's survey gives a general picture: 80.7% of visitors to Japan said they used a train or monorail in Japan, compared with 26.5% for taxis and 24.0% for suburban buses (multiple answers allowed). This is for all of Japan, not for the trip from an airport to Tokyo. We read 80.7% as the 2025 figure from the report's text, but we are not fully certain of that. Source: Japan Tourism Agency, Inbound Consumption Trend Survey (インバウンド消費動向調査) 2025 annual report, Public Data License 1.0 (processed by Japan Trip Math). The agency's English site lists this survey under "International Visitor Survey".

Calculator: your area, your group, your departure time

There are five calculators: Tokyo Station, Shinjuku, Ueno, Asakusa, and the N'EX round trip ticket. Each shows only the options we have a fare for in that area. The method is on the About page.

  1. Set how many adults are in your group.
  2. Choose when you leave the airport. This is the time you leave the airport, not your flight's arrival time. It changes the taxi fare and the notes on last departures. It does not change any train or bus fare.
  3. In the Tokyo Station calculator, also set your suitcases and the TYO-NRT fare. Luggage does not change any price. It only triggers a warning about TYO-NRT's one-suitcase-per-person rule.

Tokyo Station

Shinjuku

Ueno

Asakusa

We did not price the Skyliner plus a change at Ueno, the N'EX or the limousine bus to Asakusa, so this calculator has only three rows.

N'EX round trip

This one compares two N'EX single tickets with the N'EX TOKYO Round Trip Ticket, for the same station both ways. We could not confirm who may buy the Round Trip Ticket, and we did not confirm whether the outbound and return stations can differ.

What the calculators do not include:

  • The trip from the arrival station to your hotel.
  • Children.
  • Any fare difference for luggage. We did not get the limousine bus luggage rules.
  • Taxi tolls, and taxi passenger, vehicle and luggage limits (we could not read them).
  • Uber and taxi companies other than Nihon Kotsu.
  • The border times of TYO-NRT's early-morning and late-night services, and its last departure.
  • The Keisei Access Express and Rapid Limited Express ride times and last departures.
  • Fares and last departures for limousine buses to Shibuya and Shinagawa.
  • Who may buy the N'EX Round Trip Ticket.
  • The fee some travel agencies charge for the Skyliner discount ticket.
  • The subway rides in the Tokyo Subway Ticket and the Skyliner & Tokyo Subway Ticket. See the ticket table above.
  • Times of day. They come from the timetables we read and change by day.

Table F: Four common arrivals

Adult, one way, total for the group, as of September 19, 2026. Times of day come from the timetables we read and can change. Local transport after the arrival station is not included. Taxi fares are for one vehicle and exclude tolls.

Scenario JR ordinary trains Keisei ordinary (Rapid Limited Express) Access Express Skyliner (+ JR) Skyliner discount (+ JR) Limousine bus TYO-NRT N'EX Taxi
2 people, Shinjuku, afternoon 3,200 - - 5,680 5,140 7,200 - 6,660 28,000
3 people, Tokyo Station, after 22:00 4,230 - - 8,340 7,530 9,300 9,000 (late-night fare) 9,420 30,000
2 people, Ueno - 2,060 2,480 5,160 4,620 - - 6,280 26,000
4 people, Asakusa - 4,400 5,160 - - - - - 26,000

In the Tokyo Station row after 22:00, the N'EX figure is shown only for comparison, because the timetable lists no N'EX after 21:44. In the Tokyo Station row, the TYO-NRT figure uses the 3,000 yen late-night fare. In the Ueno row, the Access Express and Rapid Limited Express figures are ticket fares only, and the N'EX figure includes a change to the Yamanote Line. In the Shinjuku and Tokyo Station rows, the Skyliner figures include the JR ticket from Nippori.

Two people, Shinjuku, leaving Narita in the afternoon

The JR Sobu Line Rapid with one change is 3,200 yen for two. The N'EX is 6,660 yen for two, which is 3,460 yen more. In JR East's search, the N'EX to Shinjuku was 78 minutes of riding plus 23 other minutes. The JR route was 95 plus 13. Because we do not know what "other" includes, we do not put a price on the time you save. The Skyliner plus the Yamanote Line is 5,680 yen (5,140 yen with the discount ticket). The limousine bus is 7,200 yen. The taxi is 28,000 yen for the vehicle.

If you value a direct train and a reserved seat, the N'EX runs direct to Shinjuku. If you would rather keep the money, the JR ordinary route is the lowest fare in this table. Neither choice is best for everyone.

If you will come back to Narita on the same route, the round trip matters too. For two people to Shinjuku and back, four N'EX single tickets (2 people, there and back, 3,330 yen each) cost 13,320 yen in total, and two Round Trip Tickets cost 10,400 yen, which is 2,920 yen less. That holds only if you are allowed to buy it, and we could not confirm that.

Three people, Tokyo Station, leaving after 22:00

In Table C, the last N'EX departs at 21:44 and the last limousine bus to Tokyo Station on the September 19 table departed at 20:45, so both are before 22:00. That leaves the JR Sobu Line Rapid to Tokyo at 22:57 and the Skyliner at 23:00. For three people to Tokyo Station, the JR Sobu Line Rapid is 4,230 yen, the Skyliner plus the Yamanote Line is 8,340 yen, and the taxi is 30,000 yen (the 22:00 to 05:00 fixed fare). Shared between three, the taxi is 30,000 ÷ 3 = 10,000 yen each.

The taxi costs more in total than every train option here. The numbers do not include effort. A taxi can suit you if the last train has gone, or if you do not want to change trains with bags late at night. We did not find the last TYO-NRT departure, and the taxi page does not give a passenger limit.

A 22:57 departure would reach Tokyo at about 00:15 by our arithmetic. Check the timetable for your date.

Two people, Ueno

Ueno is the one area in Table A where the Skyliner runs direct. For two people, the Keisei Main Line Rapid Limited Express or Limited Express costs 2,060 yen, the Access Express costs 2,480 yen, the Skyliner costs 5,160 yen (4,620 yen with the discount ticket) and the N'EX with one change costs 6,280 yen. The taxi is 26,000 yen. The Skyliner reaches Keisei Ueno in 41 minutes at the shortest, according to Keisei. We did not get ride times or last departures for the Access Express or the Rapid Limited Express.

Keisei's Access Express ticket to Keisei Ueno is 1,240 yen, while the fare part of the Skyliner is 1,280 yen. We do not know the reason for the difference, so we only list both. If you stay at Ueno, Table A gives your whole comparison.

Four people, Asakusa

The Access Express with no change is 5,160 yen for four. The Rapid Limited Express or Limited Express is 4,400 yen, which is 760 yen less on the ticket alone. We did not get ride times, so we cannot say what that 760 yen buys or saves. The N'EX does not go to Asakusa. The taxi is 26,000 yen for the vehicle, or 26,000 ÷ 4 = 6,500 yen each. We could not read the passenger or luggage limit for that taxi.

How to buy

N'EX and Skyliner tickets

Both are sold by their operators. For the N'EX, see JR East's N'EX TOKYO Round Trip Ticket page. For the Skyliner, see Keisei's Skyliner Discount Ticket page. Keisei also lists a same-day luggage delivery service called Hands-Free Travel with Skyliner. Travel agencies, including KKday, list N'EX and Skyliner tickets too. We did not compare their prices with the operators' prices, so we make no claim about which is cheaper.

Private airport transfer

A private transfer is one option if your group is large, you have many bags or you arrive late. KKday and GetYourGuide both list private transfers from Narita to Tokyo. We do not quote their prices or descriptions here. For a price you can check on a page you can read, use the Nihon Kotsu fixed fares in the taxi table above.

Where to stay after you land

Table A shows what each arrival station costs. If your plan is centred on the east side (Ueno, Asakusa, Oshiage), the Keisei lines reach it without a change. If you are staying west, the N'EX runs direct to Shinjuku and Shibuya, and the limousine bus runs direct to Shinjuku Station and major Shinjuku hotels. You can also take the JR route to Shinjuku with a change.

Common questions

How much is the Narita Express to Tokyo?

On or after March 14, 2026, a reserved seat is 3,140 yen to Tokyo Station, Ueno (with one change) and Akihabara, and 3,330 yen to Shinagawa, Shinjuku, Shibuya and Ikebukuro. To Yokohama it is 4,480 yen. See Table A.

How much is the Skyliner, and is it cheaper than JR?

The Skyliner is 2,580 yen to Keisei Ueno or Nippori (fare 1,280 yen plus liner fee 1,300 yen). The discount ticket is 2,310 yen. The JR Sobu Line Rapid to Tokyo Station is 1,410 yen, which is lower. The N'EX to Tokyo Station is 3,140 yen. How they compare depends on your destination, so use Table A.

Skyliner or Narita Express: which one?

It depends on the area. The Skyliner is direct to Keisei Ueno (41 minutes at the shortest, per Keisei). The N'EX is direct to Tokyo Station, Shinagawa, Shinjuku, Shibuya and Yokohama. It needs one change on the Yamanote Line for Ikebukuro and Ueno. Table A and the ride-time table give the fares and ride times side by side.

Are the Keisei Skyliner and the Keisei Access Express the same?

No. On Keisei's fare pages they are separate services with separate fares. The Access Express has no limited express fee. To Keisei Ueno, the Access Express ticket is 1,240 yen and the Skyliner is 2,580 yen in total. We do not know why the fare part differs between the two.

Is the N'EX round trip ticket worth it?

It costs 5,200 yen and is valid for 14 days. Two single tickets to Tokyo Station cost 6,280 yen, and two to Shinjuku cost 6,660 yen, so the gap is 1,080 yen and 1,460 yen. But we could not confirm who is allowed to buy it, and we did not confirm whether the outbound and return stations can differ. We did not find how JR East handles a lost ticket. Read JR East's conditions first.

What is the last train from Narita Airport?

In the timetables we read on September 19, 2026, the last N'EX departs at 21:44, the last JR Sobu Line Rapid to Tokyo at 22:57 (weekday) and the last Skyliner at 23:00. JR East marks the 21:44 N'EX with ◆, which means "check the operating days", so it may not run every day. The last N'EX without that mark is 18:15 on the weekday table, and on the Saturday/holiday table every N'EX has the mark. Check JR East and Keisei for your date.

Is there a late-night bus?

In the Saturday, September 19, 2026 table, the last limousine bus to Shinjuku left Terminal 1 at 23:05, and the last one to Tokyo Station left Terminal 1 at 20:45. TYO-NRT has late-night services at 3,000 yen, but we did not find its last time.

How much is a taxi from Narita to Tokyo?

Nihon Kotsu's fixed fare is 26,000 yen to Chiyoda, Chuo and Taito wards, and 28,000 yen to Shinjuku and Shibuya wards. From 22:00 to 05:00 they are 30,000 yen and 33,000 yen. Tolls are extra. From Narita into Tokyo, book by 3 hours before pick-up. We did not check Uber.

Can I reserve the limousine bus?

Tokyo Airport Transportation's timetable showed "Available" with "Reservations up to 5 mins before" for evening buses on September 19, 2026. Earlier buses that day showed "Boarding Closed". We did not read how to reserve or the luggage rules, so please check the operator's site.

Do I need to reserve the TYO-NRT bus?

No. It is open seating, and if the bus is full you cannot board. From the first bus at Terminal 3 through the 22:45 bus, you buy a timed ticket at the ticket counter. For other buses, pay at the stop by cash or transport IC card.

How do I get to Tokyo from Terminal 3?

The nearest rail station is Airport Terminal 2-3 Station, a 10-minute walk from Terminal 3. The limousine bus and the TYO-NRT bus both have services from Terminal 3.

Is Keisei's English fare page wrong?

It differs from Keisei's other pages. The English "Fares from Major Stations" page lists the Skyliner at 2,470 yen, while the Japanese ticket page and the English discount ticket page list 2,580 yen. We use 2,580 yen and do not know the reason for the difference.

Is the Skyliner & Tokyo Subway Ticket worth it?

The 24-hour version is 3,100 yen. The regular Skyliner plus a 24-hour Tokyo Subway Ticket is 3,580 yen, so the combined ticket is 480 yen lower. That only matters if you use the subway that day. We did not read where to buy it or when the 24 hours start.
