How the numbers are worked out

• Fares and prices come from the operator's own website (railway companies, attractions, official ticket pages). Each article lists its sources and the date they were checked.
• Visitor spending data comes from the Japan Tourism Agency, used under Japan's Public Data License (PDL 1.0). Where we process that data, we say so.
• Calculators let you plug in your own trip, because the right answer depends on your route, dates and group.
• Published articles are re-checked against the official pages on a schedule. When a price changes, the article is updated and the update date is shown.
